Western blot of purified anti-Haptoglobin antibody (clone BL28630). Lane 1: Molecular weight marker; Lane 2: 1 µg of human plasma; Lane 3: 2 µg of human plasma; Lane 4: 5 µg of human plasma; Lane 5: 10 µg of human plasma. The blot was incubated with 1 µg/mL of the primary antibody overnight at 4°C, followed by incubation with HRP-labeled goat anti-mouse IgG (Cat. No. 405306). Enhanced chemiluminescence was used as the detection system.

Description

Haptoglobin is a protein that is mainly expressed by hepatic cells in the liver. Haptoglobin is an acute-phase antioxidant that binds to free hemoglobin (Hb) in the plasma and inhibits the oxidative activity of hemoglobin. Individuals carrying the haptoglobin 2-2 genotype have decreased affinity to Hb and are at a higher risk of developing cerebral aneurysm-related complications due to impaired anti-inflammatory pathways. This highlights haptoglobin as part of the Hb scavenging mechanism, which may be critical for clearing Hb after intracranial bleeding and neuroprotection.
