Corporate Giving and Community Involvement

Partnering and giving back to the scientific community is a cornerstone of BioLegend’s values. The roots of our collaborative spirit go back to the start of the company itself in 2002 in San Diego, California.  The founder and CEO Gene Lay had a mission; he would start an antibody and reagents company that could be a true partner to researchers seeking cures to deadly diseases.

Employee Volunteerism and Giving

BioLegend cares deeply about our communities. Employees are encouraged to volunteer with their favorite charities in our Employee Volunteer Days program, which in the last five years, has resulted in 1,400+ community service volunteer hours served by 230+ employees. Examples of organizations and events we’ve served include: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk, Torrey Pines Beach Clean-up days, San Diego Food Bank, and Feeding San Diego.

One of our popular employee-led CommuniActy clubs is “Community Service Initiative”, in which employees team up to volunteer at local programs.

Employee-Led Green Initiatives

BioLegend employees actively participate as good environmental stewards.

  • Our ASPIRE Program on Green Initiatives focuses on recycling awareness and education so as to reduce non-recyclable waste. The group is currently assessing the potential of recyclable latex gloves and surgical masks.
  • BioLegend has provided 55 clean air/carpool/vanpool parking spaces, 41 of which are EV charging ready.
  • Our groups are increasingly connecting online to reduce our carbon footprint from air travel, and telecommuting is available to many of our employees.
  • We provide employee bicycle parking in a lockable area as well as bike parking for visitors near entrances to our buildings.
  • Employee-based CommuniActies offers Garden Club and Environmental Awareness programs. Interested employees can grow herbs, fruits, and vegetables in dedicated garden plots on our beautiful campus.
